He spent his early years working with the family dairy and beef co-operative farm (McCutcheon Meadow) side by side with his father Claude McCutcheon his grandfather Wm. Elgin McCutcheon and great uncle Bruce McCutcheon. Through the years he drove taxi in Wasaga Beach and worked in road construction. He moved to Barrie after the 1985 tornado to work repairing and rebuilding the damaged homes and businesses. He continued working as a general contractor throughout his life.
