Obituary for Marjorie Jean Adeline Elliott (Sherritt)

ELLIOTT – In her 82nd year, Marjorie Jean Adeline (Sherritt) Elliott passed away suddenly on January 5, 2021 at her home in Dundalk, Ontario. Marj is survived by her three children: David (Janice) of Badjeros, Anne of Owen Sound, Allan (Diane) of Dundalk, 6 grandchildren, Ben, Meaghan, Andrew, Braeden, Connor and Sydney and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her partner of 37 years, Lyle Crockford and his children Brian (Sue) and Debbie (Phil) as well as her siblings, John (Claire) Sherritt of Tiny, Diane (Emilio) Venditti of Toronto, Ron (Joanne) Sherritt of Toronto, Ralph (Cathy) Sherritt of Toronto and sisters-in-law Geraldine Sherritt of Melancthon, and Sheila Elliott of Kincardine and brothers-in-law Doug Day of Mount Hope, Bob (Jean) Elliott of Flesherton and Mac Hannon of Milton, by her much-loved cousin Lawna Sherritt of Nova Scotia and many, many nieces and nephews. Marj is predeceased by her parents Archie and Marjorie Sherritt, Stepmom Ivy, ex-husband Grant Elliott, her siblings Eileen, Gord, and Brenda, brothers-in-law John Witterick, Jack (Eileen) Elliott, Jim (Bea) Elliott, Alick (Helen) Elliott, and Ron Elliott and sisters-in-law Margaret (Ernie) Shaw, Mildred (Selby) Seeley, Elsie (Mel) Schumacher, Jean (Jack) Ryman, Alice (Wally) Stinson, Helen (Len) Morton, Olive (Bill) Woods, and Joan Hannon. Born into humble and tragic beginnings in Corbetton, Ontario, Marj was raised by her beloved grandparents, Harry and Alexina Sherritt on a farm with no running water or electricity. She grew up with few possessions but was surrounded by love and learned the skills of perseverance and hard work which she carried forward into the rest of her life. Marj was always on the go, loved to chat with people and enjoyed her life in the Dundalk Community. She loved working at her many jobs including the Nelson’s Candy Factory, and Elias Rogers Company both in Toronto, the Dundalk CIBC, Elliott’s Dairy, Granell Properties, the Teddy Bear Café, Keady Market, Flesherton Arena, and the Dundalk Herald and her volunteer position as Treasurer of the local Cancer Society which she held for many, many years. Marj will be deeply missed by family, friends and her many, many acquaintances in the community. No service will be held at Marj’s request. Interment will be at the Shelburne Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Dundalk Olde Townhall Renovation Project via etransfer to dundalk.oldetownhall@gmail.com; in person at the Dundalk Credit Union to the Team Town Hall account #174556; or mail a cheque to the Township of Southgate with a memo for the Olde Town Hall project where Marj enjoyed many plays in days gone by, or a charity of your choice.
