Jo-ann (Helen) Long
After a long and very courageous battle with lung cancer and liver disease, Jo-ann, in her 66th year passed away peacefully with family by her side, on Tuesday, December 12th 2023.
Jo-ann was the beloved wife, soul mate and best friend of John Hughes for over 44 years and will be lovingly remembered by John's children Shawna Shellswell (Warren) Sheri Hughes and Stephen Hughes (Angie) and granchildren Morgan and Samara Shellswell (Shawna), Sasha Wheeler (Sheri) , Madison Sumner Hughes (Steve and Angie) and sister-in-law Carol Barlow (Brian predeceased).
Jo had a lengthy and successful career as a server at Horseshoe Valley Resort (23 years) and the Grape and Olive in Orillia for another 13 years.
Jo-ann, born in Markdale, Ontario on August 12, 1958, and raised in Dundalk, was the loving daughter of Vernon and Bernice Long, both predeceased and cherished sister of Robert Long (predeceased) (Jo-anne), Cathy Flear (Grant) and Brian Long (Geri). She was a very proud Aunt Jo and will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jo-ann's life will be held at Carson Funeral home – L. Doolittle Chapel 54 Coldwater St E, in Orillia on Saturday, January 27th from 1 - 4 pm.
We extend a sincere thank you to the emergency room and Harvey 2 staff at Orillia Soldiers Memorial hospital, Doctor Anand and our family Doctor Kapaluto and special gratitude to the staff at RVH Barrie who took such good care of her every Thursday for the past two years. All of you made the weekly procedure she had to endure muchmore tolerable and Jo and I will be forever grateful.
